Mr. Buyer (for himself and Ms. Hooley of Oregon) submitted the
following concurrent resolution; which was referred to the Committee on
Science, and in addition to the Committee on International Relations,
for a period to be subsequently determined by the Speaker, in each case
for consideration of such provisions as fall within the jurisdiction of
the committee concerned

CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
Commending the Expedition-Six crew of the International Space Station,
Commander Ken Bowersox, Flight Engineer Nikolai Budarin, and NASA ISS
Science Officer Don Pettit, for their contributions in furthering
scientific discovery for the world, and welcoming them back home to
Earth.
Whereas the Expedition-Six Crew includes Commander Ken Bowersox of Bedford,
Indiana, NASA ISS Science Officer Dr. Don Pettit of Silverton, Oregon,
and Flight Engineer Nikolai Budarin of Kirya, Chuvashia (Russia);
Whereas the Expedition-Six Crew departed for the International Space Station on
November 23, 2002, and docked on November 25, 2002;
Whereas the crew conducted numerous experiments on space flight, physical
sciences, bioastronautics research, and space product development;
Whereas the crew participated in the 25th spacewalk based out of the
International Space Station;
Whereas the crew enriched the lives of thousands of students through
videoconferencing and other communications with classrooms around the
world;
Whereas due to the tragedy of the Columbia shuttle, the crew's March return date
was delayed indefinitely;
Whereas after 159 days in orbit the crew left the International Space Station
aboard a Russian Soyuz TMA-1 spacecraft on Saturday, May 3, 2003, and
returned to earth the following morning on Sunday, May 4, 2003; and
Whereas the landing marks the first time a United States astronaut has landed
using a Russian spacecraft: Now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the House of Representatives (the Senate concurring),
That Congress--
(1) welcomes home the courageous and brave crew of the
Expedition-Six of the International Space Station, and applauds
their efforts to further scientific discovery to the benefit of
the entire world;
(2) thanks the National Aeronautics and Space
Administration for a job well done;
(3) recognizes the exemplary efforts of the Russian space
program in bringing the astronauts home; and
(4) applauds this example of the cooperation of the United
States and Russia for the benefit of the world.
