  Extending condolences to the family, friends, and loved ones of the 
                        late Mr. Eugene Gilmer.

                    IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES

                             June 17, 2003

 Mr. Conyers (for himself and Ms. Kilpatrick) submitted the following 
     concurrent resolution; which was referred to the Committee on 
                           Government Reform

                         CONCURRENT RESOLUTION


 
  Extending condolences to the family, friends, and loved ones of the 
                        late Mr. Eugene Gilmer.

Whereas Mr. Eugene Gilmer committed his life to the Detroit community as an 
        advocate for education;
Whereas Eugene Gilmer, an attendee of Xavier University and a graduate of Wayne 
        State University, contributed his expertise to the Detroit Public School 
        system as an educator with numerous years of service;
Whereas Eugene Gilmer was noted for his brilliance as a school administrator and 
        was credited for greatly improving the learning environment of 
        Fitzgerald Elementary School;
Whereas Eugene Gilmer, a true and loyal patriot serving in World War II, was 
        prepared to give his life in defense of this country;
Whereas Eugene Gilmer contributed extraordinary time and effort in the 
        development of Detroit's Charles H. Wright Museum of African American 
        History, serving as Chair of the Board of Directors and playing a vital 
        role in the development of the museum's 120,000 square foot, state of 
        the art facility; and
Whereas Eugene Gilmer will be deeply missed by his loving family, his fellow 
        colleagues and former students, and friends of the greater Detroit 
        community: Now, therefore, be it
    Resolved by the House of Representatives (the Senate concurring), 
That Congress, on behalf of the American people, extends its deepest 
condolences to the family, friends, and loved ones of the late Mr. 
Eugene Gilmer.
