  Mr. Hefley, Mr. Traficant, and Mr. Barton of Texas) introduced the 
    following bill; which was referred to the Committee on Commerce

  To require an extension of the comment periods relating to certain 
                            proposed rules.

    Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the 
United States of America in Congress assembled,

SECTION 1. EXTENSION.

    The comment periods on the proposed rules related to clothes 
washers published at 65 Federal Register 59549-59588 (October 5, 2000) 
and the proposed rules related to residential central air conditioners 
and heat pumps published at 65 Federal Register 59589-59632 (October 5, 
2000) shall both be extended from December 4, 2000, for a period of not 
less than 120 additional calendar days.
